IPX4 vs IPX7 on Electric Spin Scrubbers
What IPX4 and IPX7 actually test on electric spin scrubbers, which claim each rating supports, and why listing copy must match the report.

IPX4 and IPX7 are ingress-protection ratings with different test methods: IPX4 verifies resistance to water splashed from any direction, while IPX7 verifies the sealed enclosure survives immersion at 1 metre for 30 minutes. A splash-rated scrubber can be used in a wet bathroom but not submerged; only an IPX7-verified model supports a 'submersible' or 'fully washable' claim.
Key points
- IPX4 is a splash test; IPX7 is a 1 m / 30 minute immersion test.
- IPX7 requires gasketed enclosures and sealed ports — it is a design decision, not a coating.
- Verify the rating per model with an immersion report; 'waterproof' without one is a returns problem.
- Our G002, G003 and G017 carry IPX7 reports; G001 is splash-rated (IPX4) by design.
What the two tests actually do
IPX4 places the device under an oscillating spray from every direction for a fixed duration. It answers one question: can the tool survive a wet bathroom?
IPX7 lowers the device into 1 metre of water for 30 minutes. It answers a different question: can the tool be dropped into a bucket, a sink or a tub and keep working?
The engineering distance between those two answers is a gasketed enclosure, sealed ports and a different assembly process — which is why IPX7 costs more and why it is a model-level specification, not a brand-level one.
Where the claim meets the report
| Model class | Rating | Claim the report supports |
|---|---|---|
| G001 long-pole | IPX4 | “Splash-resistant — safe for wet bathroom use” |
| G003 long-pole | IPX7 | “Submersible to 1 m (IPX7 verified)” |
| G002 extended | IPX7 | “Submersible to 1 m (IPX7 verified)” |
| G017 compact | IPX7 | “Submersible to 1 m (IPX7 verified)” |
| G004 multi-function | Per report | Stated per model file |
The single most common cause of returns in this category is a splash-rated tool sold with submersible copy. Our spin scrubber platforms therefore state the rating per model, and the quality and compliance files include the immersion reports by model number.
The copy rule for your listing
Write the claim the rating can carry:
- IPX4: “splash-resistant”, “safe to use in wet bathrooms”
- IPX7: “submersible to 1 metre”, “fully washable body”
Never: “waterproof” alone. The word has no test behind it, and marketplace reviewers — plus EU and US regulators — increasingly ask which one you meant.
The honest boundary
Even an IPX7 rating describes the enclosure as tested: brush heads, charging ports opened during use, and accessories are outside the claim. A listing that says “the body is IPX7-rated when sealed” is boring, accurate, and returns-friendly — which is the combination that survives a year of reviews.
