MOQ and Lead Time in an Appliance ODM Quote
Why MOQ varies by configuration, what drives 15–20 day lead times, and the quotation items that decide your landed cost.

MOQ is configuration-specific, not brand-wide: it ranges from 500 units on entry appliance platforms to 2,000 units where metal finishing or fixed toolings are involved, because each variant consumes a minimum production run. Lead times of 15–20 days run from deposit and packaging approval, and an honest quote states container loading quantities, carton formats and payment terms alongside the unit price.
Key points
- MOQ follows the configuration: colour, accessory kits and packaging variants each consume a minimum run.
- Lead time starts at deposit AND packaging approval — artwork delays are the most common schedule leak.
- Container loading quantity is a quotation-table item that swings freight cost per unit by an order of magnitude.
- Standard terms are 30% deposit and 70% before shipment; repeat terms follow completed orders.
MOQ is a configuration property, not a company property
A supplier who quotes one MOQ for everything is quoting carelessly. The honest structure looks like this:
| Configuration | Why the number moves | Typical MOQ |
|---|---|---|
| Entry robot vacuum, standard colour | Standard tooling, common battery | 500 units |
| LDS / self-emptying robot vacuum | More configurations per run | 1,000 units |
| Spin scrubbers, standard colours | Shared motor platforms | 504–1,000 units |
| Car vacuum (aluminium barrel) | Fixed tooling plus metal finishing | 2,000 units |
| Pet fountains | Water-system validation per run | From 500 units |
Each custom variant — Pantone colour, extra accessory kit, custom packaging — consumes its own minimum run, because housings are injection moulded and colour is a material batch, not a switch.
Lead time: the two clocks that actually run
Production: 15–20 days from deposit and packaging approval for standard configurations. First orders with custom colours or packaging run to the upper end because of the surface-treatment step.
The clock nobody quotes: compliance and components. Destination-market test documentation for a specific model, and long-lead components (radio modules, cells), are what actually push launch dates. We flag both at quotation — see the per-model certification summary that should accompany any quote.
The quotation-table items that decide landed cost
| Item | Example | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Container loading | D2-series robots: 1,200 units / 20GP, 2,880 / 40HQ | Freight per unit swings by an order of magnitude across platforms |
| Carton format | 2–36 units per carton by product | Affects both freight and retail receiving cost |
| Net/gross weight | e.g. 510 g / 805 g per colour box (car vacuum) | Drives the freight quote before volume does |
| Incoterms | FOB Shenzhen, EXW, DDP | EXW quotes often cost more delivered than FOB |
| Payment terms | 30% deposit, 70% before shipment | Cash-flow planning on both sides |
Our platform pages carry the per-model numbers, and every quotation includes the loading table for the exact SKU.
The boundary
We do not quote single-unit dropship volumes — container-scale private-label supply is the model, and a quote below the configuration’s honest MOQ means someone is skipping a step. For what to check before choosing a supplier at all, start with choosing a robot vacuum ODM.
This article describes general practice in appliance ODM manufacturing. It is not a substitute for a programme-specific review — certification status, MOQ and lead time depend on the exact model, configuration and destination market.
